I' m looking for a company where i can learn more about Maya i'm willing to work for free on weekends or someone that are willing to help me. I have learn most of the basics, but im looking to build a career in cgi. Im staying in the westrand.

All I can suggest is to work on your portfolio as much as possible. And do all the tutorials you find online. Maya is mostly used in movie studios to add cg to the movie. Some game studios also use Maya and I know a couple of pre-visualization studios that use Maya too, but not many of them. Also keep sending out your demoreel to potential employers. I'm not sure how many places in South Africa / Gauteng use Maya but I don't think there are many of them. You would have to look at overseas companies, like in the UK, Canada, US, Asia and New Zealand.

I am not entirely sure of my fact, but I heard that the alien figure on SABC2 called Dub or something for the kids are being created with Maya. I don’t know if this could help you, but maybe uplift your hopes! Wink

A good place to start are the tutorials that comes with Maya.

Obviously video based training is better because you not only hear it but see it too. A good source for that is Digital Tutors.
