After installing Directx9 I'm having problems with no sound. When I try using WINAMP I get the message "Bad Directsound....." and Windows Media Player says that it can not play the file because there is a problem with my sound device and under the more info button I get the following "Error ID = 0xC00D11BA, Condition ID = 0x00000000".

I can play music from a CD but nothing that resides on the HD will play including games. I looked under start>settings>control panel>sounds and multimedia and noticed that under the audio tab sound playback there is no selection for the device "Vinyl AC'97 Audio (Wave)". It is a choice under sound recording devices. Does Vinyl AC'97 Audio (Wave) need to be selected under the playback section? If so how do I get it to show up? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Vinyl AC'97 Audio (Wave) going through device manager and no luck.

Can I uninstall directx and if so how? I've tried installing it several times and all appears to go well but the problem does not go away. By the way I ran dxdiag and got the following results. "error: problem getting sound inf, result code=0x80004005" after this I click OK, click on the Sound 1 tab and run the directsound test with the following error message "DirectSound test results: Failure at step 3 (DirectSoundCreate): HRESULT = 0x80004005 (Generic failure)"

Can anyone help?

Have you tried reinstalling the latest drivers for your sound card?

Playing a CD won't help in testing the drivers as it bypasses the sound card drivers.

You can't uninstall directX (or rather you can uninstall it by reinstalling the OS Wink).

Hi

I've got speakers, I've got directX9 or something like it, but still no sound, when I start media player, it tells me that there is no sound devise installed. But, (and now your propably going to laugh your ass of! Very Happy ) is it necessary to instal speakers? I mean, Windows 2000 Professional should have drivers for it right?

HELP! Shocked

Thanks!
Jana

The question is do you have your sound card installed properly. The sure fire way to find out is to check the Device Manager, which you can get by going to your Control Panel, select System, and click on the Hardware tab and click on the Device Manager button. Check down the list to see if there are any devices that shows a yellow circle with a black exclamation mark, next to it.
